A series of primate portraits serving as style experiments. Inspired by cool but long-forgotten facts learned in a Biological Anthropology course.
Pisces is a character for Project Zodiac.
The design logic for the character concept comes from traits of the zodiac sign Pisces:
-Likeable & Nonconfrontational
-Sensitive & Idealistic
-Imaginative & Escapist
Additionally, we let these traits dictate the play-style of the character. Pisces is a noncombat character who evades confrontation with enemies throughout levels.

Scorpio is a character for Project Zodiac.
The design logic for the character concept stems from traits of the Scorpio zodiac sign:
-Intense & Powerful
-Tough yet Sensitive
-Fierce & Protective
We also let these traits dictate the play-style of the character. Scorpio is a large and stoic character, but is capable of fierce rampages when approached by enemies.
This concept was for the Scorpio level of Project Zodiac.
This piece allowed me to experiment with combining digital 2D and 3D workflows. During a critique, someone described the aesthetic as, “kinda like Minecraft, but different.”
The biggest challenge was designing an environment with a consistent shape language throughout the composition and its elements.

The lighting and color palette are meant to evoke Scorpio’s brooding and mysterious nature while still maintaining the playful feel of a retro platformer.
Character concept for a personal project.
